Filters & Filtration

Replacement filters for all types of fume cabinet

Whatever you run, ours or another maker’s, we manufacture the replacement carbon, HEPA and ULPA filters that keep your laboratory safe, compliant and working without interruption. A full range of carbon grades, matched to exactly what you handle.

How it works

Clean air in three stages

A ductless cabinet doesn’t send fumes up a duct. It captures them, filters them, and returns clean air to the room. The filters are what make that safe.

Stage 1

Prefilter

A prefilter captures coarse dust and particulate first, protecting the main filter behind it and extending its working life.

Stage 2

Main filter

An activated carbon filter for vapours and odours, or a HEPA filter for particulates. The grade is chosen for what you're working with.

Stage 3

Clean air returned

The filtered air is recirculated back into the room. No ducting to atmosphere, no loss of conditioned air, and nothing hazardous released.

Some cabinets also use a second backup filter behind the main one, depending on the application. If your cabinet is set up that way, let us know and we’ll match it.

Filter grades

The right filter for the fume

Different grades of carbon suit different substances, and particulates need HEPA. The chart below is a guide to which grade suits which family of chemicals. It is not definitive, so always contact us to check, listing all the chemicals and quantities you use.

Standard grades

Filter Suited to
GPGeneral purpose The most widely used grade. Suited to acids, alcohols, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, aldehydes and ketones, ethers, esters, halogens, sulphur and nitrogen compounds, and a range of miscellaneous substances such as adhesives, resins, petrol and cyanoacrylate.
FORAldehyde Aldehydes, including acetaldehyde, formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde. Widely used in histopathology and endoscopy.
ACIAcid Acidic vapours, including certain aldehydes and ketones, halogen acids, sulphur compounds and nitrogen compounds.
AMMAmmonia Ammonia and amines, including diethyl, dimethyl and ethyl amine, and pyridine.
GRDEducation A combined acid and ammonia grade developed for educational institutions, covering the mixed chemistry typical of teaching laboratories.
HEPAParticulates Powders and particulates.
Carbon / HEPACombination A combined carbon and HEPA filter, where both vapours and particulates are present.
CustomBlended A blend of carbons where more than one chemistry is in use, made to your requirement. For example a general purpose and formalin blend for a lab using both.

Specialist grades for tricky chemistry

For substances the standard grades don’t cover, we manufacture impregnated carbons to suit. If you work with any of these, please talk to us before ordering.

Important: correct filter selection is vital to protect the operator, and remains the responsibility of the user as part of their own risk assessment. This chart is a general guide only and is not definitive. When ordering, please give us the full details of the substances to be filtered and the volumes involved so we can help you choose a suitable grade.

Where filtration isn't the answer

Filtered cabinets suit most laboratory work, but not where very large quantities of contaminant are produced, such as acid digestion or evaporating solvents to dryness. They are not advised for very highly toxic substances, or where unknown reactions are carried out.

Don't rely on smell

Some substances are poorly adsorbed by any filter and should only be used in small quantities. And because some hazardous vapours have little or no odour, a filter should never be judged by smell alone. Share the details of what you use and we can help you find a suitable grade.

One source for every filter

Any make, any model

You don’t have to have bought your cabinet from us. We manufacture replacement carbon, HEPA and ULPA filters to fit the vast majority of fume cabinets, our own and other manufacturers’. One supplier for every filter in your lab.

  • ✓ Replacement filters made to fit cabinets from most manufacturers
  • ✓ Carbon, HEPA, ULPA and combination options

Tell us what you’re filtering

Correct filter selection protects the operator, so the more detail you can give us the better. Send us the substances and volumes, and the cabinet or filter size if you know it, and we’ll help you choose a suitable grade and come back with a price, typically within four working hours.
